Can someone explain a secondary bevel? >>

Lots of good info here.

this convex edge guide by buzzbait is a good explanation.I use multi-bevel on my CRKT Point Guard, i.e. the primary bevel (the grind that determine blade shape and thickness), the secondary bevel (from factory, forming the cutting edge) and i added microbevel (slightly higher than the secondary bevel, maybe around 20° or more) to add strength to the soft AUS6A blade. It still shaves hair but lasts longer than just the secondary bevel from the factory. If the distinction of the three bevels are smoothed out, it would be a convex edge ;).

On terminology, there are edge geometry vs blade geometry .. i.e. i read somewhere else that we can have a flat ground blade with convex edge .. doesn't it sound confusing?

Jerry Hossum uses a convex edge with his hollow ground blades.

You can put a convex edge on any type of blade geometry.
