I found another RedHead Pro Series skinner (Buck 922) this week. This one is older and has a 154CM blade while the newer one has a Sandvik 12C27M blade. I believe Buck changed steels on this knife around 2011 when they transitioned from 154CM to Sandvik 12C27M. There were some threads around that time debating the virtues of these steels, but I could not find any that really compared Buck’s 154CM to Sandvik 12C27M. Since it has been a while since this change was made, can anyone with personal experience speak to whether the switch was an upgrade, downgrade, or lateral move? Which steel would you prefer and why?

BTW, it is interesting to read some of the older steel threads when Buck’s Pro level knives were made in s30v. I am sure that people’s opinions have evolved over the past 15-20 years as new knife steels have been incorporated into the Buck line.
